Brexit trailer launch: Benedict Cumberbatch performs bald brexit mastermind
HBO has launched a trailer for its new telefilm Brexit, produced in collaboration with BBC Studios, Channel four, and Home Productions, that exhibits Benedict Cumberbatch as Dominic Cummings, the person who spearheaded the Vote Go away marketing campaign, which resulted in U.Ok. voters opting to go away the European Union.
“Everybody is aware of who received,” Cumberbatch says within the trailer, “however not everybody is aware of how.”
The movie, directed by Toby Haynes, hopes to enlighten viewers—taking them backstage to indicate how Cummings ‘hacked the political system’ exploiting folks’s fears about immigration and race on social media.
The movie premieres January 19—about two and a half years after the Brexit vote. Cumberbatch informed The Spectator that he was drawn to the script written by James Graham. He stated,
‘I’ve been a giant fan of James Graham from This Home onwards and I assumed how extraordinary that I’m studying a script that reads like a thriller after I know the end result. I’m being sucked into it — these characters, their intelligence, the wit of it, the emotional energy of the drama. I spotted that is what drama can do at its finest.’
Along with Cumberbatch, Brexit options Rory Kinnear as Craig Oliver, Prime Minister David Cameron’s director of communications and head of the Stay marketing campaign.
